WEST COAST EXECUTIVE. A meeting ol ! the Executive of the West Coast Rugby League was held last evening, there being present, Messrs P. Blanchfield jnr. (President), AV. Hopkins, A. Kyle, A. Fielding, B. Rathbun, B. Ramsay, J. Kidd, J. Stokes (Management Committee), I-I. Bassett (referees’ delegate), P. Sweetman (Junior Advisory Board), A. H. McKane (life member), A. R. Donnelly and R. Pollock (Marist Club), H. Fisher and R. Glynn (Runanga), J. Neilson and B. F. Connors (Blackball), T. F. McKenzie (Carnival Organiser) and W. Moore (secretary). Oft the motion of the President, it i was decided to forward letters of condolence to the Creagh and Kennedy I families. A challenge from the Nelson Creek Club, for the Junior Challenge Shield was referred to the Fixtures Committee. A request from Riccarton juniors (Christchurch) for a match on the Vest Coast next Sunday was ’also referred to the Fixtures Committee. Air. T. Purnell, Runanga, forwarded his resignation as ar referee, and it was referred to the Referees’ Association. , The Auckland League wrote stating that it had definitely decided to send a team to the South Island, but it. was found that over half the players selected were unable to obtain the necessary leave, and it was impossible to assemble a first grade team. The question of finance had not entered into the matter.

The President said that when he had contacted Mr. 'Grey Campbell, on the telephone, he' had explained that the length or the proposed tour was the trouble, as the players could not get the fortnight’s leave required. He (Mr. Blanchfield) had suggested that an Auckland club team should be sent down, and Mr. Campbell had promised to see what he could do in the matter. Mr. H. Wilson, West Coast delegate on the New Zealand Council forwarded a report of Auckland and New Zealand League activities, confirming the. statement that many Auckland players had been unable to obtain leave for a South Island tour.

The Kuniara Club was granted permission to send a. junior team, to Christchurch, for a friendly match, on September 9. Tho referee of the Greymouth— Marist junior match last Sunday (Mr. | H. Bassett) reported that both teams j had arrived 20 minutes late, and it was I decided to request both clubs to give j an explanation. | TEAM WALKED OFF. | Mr. G. Hunt, referee of the Rapahoe- ; Blackball junior match, at Rupahoc. Hast Sunday, reported that he hud orjdered off W. Timlin (Rapahoe), for! questioning his decisions. When Timlin had gone off. the whole Rapahoe: team had walked off the iicld, ten minutes before time was up. After a lengthy discussion in comimittee, it was decided that the Rupaihoe Club be requested to send a representative to next Tuesday’s meeting, to explain its action, and also that Timlin be requested to attend the meeting. Pursuant to notice'given, Mr. field-j ing moved that a resolution on the books, to the effect that all finals be played in two spells of -15 minutes, bo rescinded and replaced with a resolution fixing the time fit. two spells of ■lO minutes. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hopkins and carried. Mr. Kyle, as treasurer for the Queen Carnival, repotred that the carnival j was making good progress. Mr. Stokes moved that any player pidered off on Sunday must appear at! the following Tuesday’s meeting, orj send in an explanation in writing, • failing which his case should be dealt’ with summarily: The motion was seconded by Mr. Hopkins. Mr. Neilson moved an amendment that the Committee should deal with oiderings-off on the referee’s report only. The amendment was seconded by I Mr. Pollock. The amendment was defeated and the motion was carried, on a show of hands. It was decided to forward a challenge, on behalf of the Marist Club, to the Canterbury League, for the Thacker Shield. It was decided that the Referees’ Association be asked to request its members to notify the referees’ selector or delegate as soon as possible when they were unable to officiate at matches. On the suggestion of Mr. Fielding, : it was decided to forward complimentary passes to Mr. J. Dalzell (Ru- ' nanga) and the St. John’s Ambulance . student who attends the matches at Wingham Park.

The Blackball Club was granted permission to send their fourth grade team to Reefton on September 3. It v.-as decided to suggest to the Canterbury League that it should play the match for the Northern Union Cup at Greymouth on September 3, and, in the event of that date being unsuitable, that they should submit an alternative. Mr. Sweetman reported that the Norman' Cox Cup team (schoolboys) would leave for Christchurch on Thursday. They would return on Tuesday, and the following Thursday, the Canterbury schoolboys’ tedm would arrive, to play a return match at Greymouth, on the Saturday.
