PROGRESS IN AUSTRALIA (BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] MELBOURNE, August 22. A preliminary survey of the progress of the Australian munitions programme, made by the Supply Department, shows;,.that the output of small arms ammunition is now three times that'of year=ago.-By December the production of anti-aircraft guns will be six times greater than that of two years ago. The output of shells and Vickers guns is also vastly greater. The employees in the armament factories now number 5892. The weekly wages bill is £25,000. The general acceleration of the programme is claimed to have brought national self-contained munition-mak-ing within sight. Orders have already been undertaken for other Dominions.
