STRIKE THREATENED
ON BRITISH RAILWAYS. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON,f August 22. Owing to the failtire to secure a 50/- per week rate for its employees; the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen is withdrawing all labour from the four main-line group of railways, at midnight, on August 26. Delegates to the conference of the National Union of -Railwaymen, representing 36,000 men, decided not to participate in the .Strike, but.to resubmit their claim for 50/- per week to the national tribunal. There is no eooperation betweeh the Society and the union. The Ministry of Labour is likely to prohibit the withdrawal of workers, who number 56.000, in view of a possible national emergency.
