The Westland Sub-Union wrote asking a ruling on the Kiwi Club’s action jn playing G. Davidson, a Hokitika school third grade player, against. Ross on Saturday last. It was stated that the Sub-Union had given an undertaking to the school that, it should have first call on school boys; ami the Kiwi Club considered it. was justified in playing Davidson in the school holidays when the school learn was not placing; and that the Ross Club had agreed to Davidson’s playing. Further ruling was asked on the playing of college students returning Io Hokitika for their term holidays. Mr. Mclntosh said that ii" the school team played in the Sub-Union’s competitions there was no doubt in his mind that the Kiwi Club had no right to play Davidson. A player could not plav for another club in the one season without a. transfer. Mr. Dowell said it had apparently been mutually agreed to by Kiwi and Ross teams. Mr. Steel said that the question regarding college boys home on holidays was covered by the residential rule. On the. motion of Messrs. In reply to’the Union’s request for an explanation as to why United seniors did not fulfil their fixture against Excelsior at Hokitika on August 12, the United Club advised that its senior team was ready to play its fixtures, but that radio announcements and local newspaper offices advised that matches had been postponed. The letter added that that was the first occasion to the club’s knowledge, that postponement of senior games by the West Coast. Union referred only to games at Grey mouth. Mr. Steel said that if the United Club was entitled to consider its game postponed, as a. result of the wireless announcement, the Blaketown. Club, which had forfeited in the morning, before, the postponement was made, was also entitled to have its game regarded as postponed. It was decided to discuss the United Club’s position, and later deal with that of the Blaketown Club. Mr. Ryan said he thought there could be no argument about, it. The Postponement Committee met and postponed all matches under its jurisdiction, so there was no fixture for United to play. Mr. Steel moved that the explanation of the United Club be accepted, and that the game be regarded as postponed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Baillie and carried. Mr. Steel said there was really no fixture for the Blaketown Club to play, as all games were postponed. Even though Blaketown defaulted before the postponement was made, that forfeit should be wiped out in view of the later postponement. The Chairman and Mr. Mclntosh - both expressed the opinion that no points should be awarded to any team, when there was a general postponement. 11. was resolved, on the motion ol Messrs. Ryan and Steel, that Blakelown’s forfeit, be declared void, and that in future, in the event of a general postponement, any forfeit made prior to the Postponement Committee’s decision to postpone, be not. effective.
