TENNIS DOUBLES FINAL

QUIST AND BROMWICH WIN [by CABLE- —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. August 22, 11.50 a.m.) BOSTON, August 21. Quist and Bromwich defeated I lopman and Crawford 8/6. 6/1, 6/4.. in the first all-foreign final in the national tourney's year history, and the doubles title goes overseas for the first time since Brookes’ and Patterson's victory in .1919. Crawford entered the match not in top shape, due to a- recurrence of athlete's foot. Twelve hundred spectators attended the match, a better crowd than was expected. Quist and Bromwich did not play to their peak form of the past week, resulting in some speculation as to whether they are stalling before the next fortnight's more-important contests. Despite the score, the match was close all the way, with most of the games going to deuce. Hopman, serving the crucial tenth game in the first set, had set point, but Crawford outed a smash, and the set was deuced. Hopman’s service was finally broken in the fourteenth again, after staving oil the final point twice. Quist told the Australian Associated Press: “i am glad I won to-day, because I now have shared in winning every major doubles title in the world, the German with Enrique Mair in 1935, the French with Crawford in 1934, the English with Crawford in 1935, and the Australian in the last four years.” Hopman and Marble won the mixed doubles title, defeating Cooke and Fabyan 9/7, 6/1. In the women’s doubles final, Marble and Fabyan defeated Stammers and Hainmersley 7/5, 8/6.
