A total of slightly over £69 was stolen from two Greymouth private residences on Sunday, by a thief or thieves who entered while the occupants were asleep. In one case £l3 was taken from a woman’s handbag and her husband’s clothes, and in the other, £56 was removed from a man’s waistcoat. The matter is being investigated by the police. Before medical evidence was heard in a compensation case in the Arbitration Court, Greymouth, to-day, Mr. Justice Callan suggested that plaintiff who was admittedly suffering from a degree of neurasthenia should retire. His Honor said he had no power to order plaintiff to leave the Court, but he thought it would be in his own interests to do so. Plaintiff acted on the Judge’s suggestion, and later a medical witness said, in reply to a question from his Honor, that he thought plaintiff was wise in doing so considering the nature of some of the evidence given.
