LONDON, July 17

At the wool sales, 8,494 bales were offered, including 5,753 New Zealand, and 7,27(1 were sold. A moderate selection, chiefly crossbreds, met with a sustained demand at steady rates. Slipes were frequently withdrawn, owing to the firm limits. New Zealand scoured crossbred, Hexten, 13d. On Bradford, merino and crossbreds are both dearer. The full output of crossbreds has been sold three months ahead. There was more business in merinos. .

The Geneva correspondent of “The Timos” says l that the United' Slates held 58 per cent, of the world’s 1 visible gold at the end of March, according to a League of Nations .statistical bulletin. France held 12J per cent., Britain 11 per cent, and the Netherlands 3S per cent.

The Tatuanui Co-operative Dairy Company this season manufactured 888 tons of cheese, a 14 per cent, decrease on last year. The average payout was 18.110 d, against 16-7598 d in 1938.' A dividend of 2£ per cent on capital has been declared. AUCKLAND GAS. AUCKLAND, July 17. The Auckland Gas Company, Ltd., has declared an interim dividend for the half-year ended June 30 of 21 per cent., payable on August 1. Last year the company paid an interim dividend of 22 per .cent, and a final of 2} per cent., a total of 5 per cent., for the year. PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE. Estates of a value of £402,485 were reported and accepted for administration by the Public Trustee during the month of June, 1939. The total value of the estates and' funds under administration by the Public Trustee on March 31, 1939, was £61,715,713, and thd new business for the three months ended June 30, 1939, was £1,398,921. Grants of administration made by the Court in favour of the Public Trustee numbered 154 for the month. During •the month 492 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were prepared for testators and lodged for safe custody, and 388 existing wills were revised to provide for changes desired by testators. During the first half of July, the Kanieri dredge worked 252 hours and treated 133,000 cubic yards, for a return of 624 ounces of gold. BARRYTOWN. During the first half of July, the Barrytown dredge worked 206 hours, and treated 87,000 cubic yards, for a return of 386 ounces of gold. clutAa RIVER. The Clutha River washup is 1450 z in 134 hours. OKARITO. The Okarito return is 250 z IGdwt for 133 hours. GILLESPIE’S BEACH. The Gillespie’s Beach return is 38oz 12dwt for 133 hours and 16.112 yards. MATAKI.
