The Australian Rugby Union team of 29 players, to sail next month for a tour of Britain, was announced tonight. It includes 17 from New South Wales, eight Queenslanders, and four Victorians. A big proportion are young players, among whom is the young centre-three-quarter, D. Carrick. The team is as follows: — Full-backs: R. Rankin, M. Clifford. Wing-three-quarters: M. Carpenter, V. Nicholson, B. Porter, J. Kelaher. Centre-three-quarters: W. Ide, L. Smith, L. Lewis, B. Carrick. Five-eighths: V. Richards, P, Collins. Half-backs: E. Gibbons, C. Ramalli. Breakaway forwards: B. Oxenham, B. Oxlade, J. McDonald, K. Windom Lock-forwards: A. Hodgson, W. McLean. Second-row forwards: A. Monti. S. Bissett, K. Ramsay. Filstrow. Frontrow forwards: V. Wilson, G. Pearson. J. Malone, J. Turnbull; hookers, A. Stone, A. Barr.

The average weights and ages are: Backs list 711bs, age 231 years; forwards list 11Jibs, age 24. Team average 12st lOJlbs, age 23:7. Wilson will be captain and Gibbons vice-captain of the team. There is general approval by commentators of the selectors’ "work, especially the policy of favouring young players. Carrick was a schoolboy player, last year. The only surprises were the omission of W. Cerutti, D. Cowper, and R. Kelly, and the inclusion of W. McLean, the Queensland forward. McLean’s father and brother have both represented Australia at Rugby Union football.

Although no official designation has been given to the team, it is taken for granted that it will he called the Wallabies.
