MOTOR-CYCLE STRIKES POLE

TWO YOUNG MEN KILLED.

CARTERTON, June 19

When a motor-cycle struck a concrete telephone pole in Belvedere Road on Saturday night, one man was killed instantly. Another died in the Masterton Hospital next morning. The victims were: — Eric William Renner, a mechanic, 21, sort of Mr. and Mrs. J. Renner, Masterton. William Potten, a mechanic, aged 19, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Potten, Greytown. Renner’s neck was broken. Poteen suffered head and body injuries. The machine was owned by Potten and ridden by Renner, with Potten on the pillion seat, The machine appeared to skid in soft earth and swerve into the pole, which was ■ broken by the impact. The accident, was neither seen nor heard, and it was only when the men were found to be-missing that, a search was made for them. CYCLIST INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, June 19. Serious injuries were suffered by a cyclist, Lewis McKenzie, of 18 Beckenham Street, Beckenham, in a collision with a car at the intersection of Colombo and Brougham streets, Sydenham, about 1 p.rn. to-day. He was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital, and his condition is reported to be serious.
