Reference to the Australian project to produce motor-spirit, from shale, in which he is interested, was made by Mr. C. F. Davis, head of the Davis Gelatine Company of Australia, on his arrival by the Awatea from Sydney, to-day. * Mr. Davis said the project was to be developed at Newnes, which was in the Blue Mountains and about 150 miles out of Sydney. Very big deposits of shale existed there, and they were to be worked by his company assisted by the State and Federal Goverriments. The prospects for the new undertaking were good, added Mr. Davis. He thought they should be producing 35,000 gallons of motor spirit a day by early next year. The necessary plant was now under construction.
