An Independent cable message from London stated that the first Court was held unusually early, owing to Their Majesties’ Canadian tour. The King wore a full-dress Field-Marshal’s uniform. The Queen wore a gown of shimmering white slipper satin, with a wide skirt heavily bordered with bands of gold lace, gold lame, and gold guipucre lace, encrusted with pearls. Gold paillettes were let into the corsage. The central panel of the gown formed a train of gold lame, bordered with bands of gold lace. Her tiara, necklace, and bracelets were of diamonds. With Their Majesties were the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Princess Alice, and the Countess of Athlone.

Mr. and Mrs. G. Herring returned yesterday, from Dunedin.

Mrs. T. Dargan and Miss D. Dargan left, to-day, on a visit to Christchurch.

Mrs. L. Stutteridge left, to-day, on return to Christchurch.

Mr. J. Mulcare left this morning, for Palmerston North, to attend' a Conciliation Council meeting.

Miss R. Oliver, who has been on an extended visit to the North island, will return to Greymouth, on Monday.

Mr. J. Taylor, the Otago and All Black full-back, who is employed in the Railways Department, Dunedin, is under notice of transfer to the head office in Wellington.

The death occurred at Wanganui, last night, following a long illness, of Mrs. C. Bignell (formerly Miss Panckhurst, of South Beach). She Is sur J vived by her husband, two daughters, and one son. ■ . • .

Mr. D. D. Burdett, formerly of Wanganui, has been appointed Transport Department Traffic Inspector at Greymouth, in succession to Mr. R. P. Chibnail, who recently resigned. He will take up his duties on Wednesday.

Mr. M. J. Fogarty left, to-day, for Timaru, where he will represent the Greymouth branch at the annual conference of the New Zealand Justices of the Peace Association. He was accompanied by Mrs. Fogarty.

Mr. Colin J. Davy, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Davy, of Hukarere, and a former pupil of the GreVmouth Technical High School, has been awarded an engineering bursary, tenable for three years at Canterbury University College, with the right of extension. Mr. Davy, since leaving high school, has had two years’ practical experience in quartz mining and engineering. • ./ .

Mr. A. C. Todd, Government Auditor at Greymouth, left last evening, on transfer to Christchurch. He was farewelled yesterday afternoon by officers of district local bodies, and presented with a fountain pen. The presentation was made by Mr. F. H. Denton (Greymouth Town Clerk) who referred in eulogistic terms to Mr. Todd’s work and the harmonious relations that had existed between him and local body officers. Miss A. B. Smeaton (Brunner Borough), Messrs. H. Herring (Greymouth Borough Council). W. H. Gilbert (Harbour Board), W. S. McClymont and J. H. Brailsford (Grey Power Board), A. J. Fairmaid and C. Heaphy (Greymouth Borough) also spoke. Opportunity was taken to welcome Mr. Todd’s successor, Mr. Hamilton.

The members of the Methodist congregation met in the Centenary Hall, on Wednesday evening to farewell Mr. and Mrs. O. Taylor, who left yesterday for Christchurch. Appreciative references were made to Mr. Taylor. who had filled many offices in the Church. After supper, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were presented with an electric toaster. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded the evening. On Tuesday evening, the Methodist Junior Guild met at the residence of Mrs. Williams, Herbert Street, to farewell Mrs. W. Wills, who will shortly leave Greymouth for her new • home in Auckland. The evening was spent in competitions and games. During supper, Mrs. Wills was presented with a crvstal honey jar and jelly dish. Mrs. Wills thanked the members of the Guild for their gifts, and wished them success.
