“THE LOVE GAME”
ROUSES M.P.’s IRE. LONDON, February 4. Colonel Harry Day, M.P., wants a ban put on th© American card game known as “Love,” which mentions the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. He calls the game a “gross insult” to the Archbishop of Canterbury. “I feel very strongly.” he said this week, “that a lamentable breach of taste has been committed. It’s a scandal the way we continue to permit the ridicule abroad of British notabilities. The time has come for a vigorous protest. J regard it as a gross insult to the Primate.
“1 shall ask the Secretary of State tor the Dome Department io stop the cii'cula(ion of these offensive cards as far as this country is concerned." ‘"l’he Love Game." as it is called, is the invention of a 19-year-old American girl. Dottie Davis. It is intended to "make everyone love-conscious" by introducing in 200 cards all the great lovers of history, such as Antony ami Cleopati-a. Romeo and Juliet. “If you're lucky," says the inslritc lion, "you may get the, Edward or Wallis card —unless the Archbishop of Canterbury sends you io exile.”
