Mr. V. Montgomery left, this morning, for Christchurch. Mr. D. Reece left, this morning on return to Christchurch. Mrs. J. Lowe left, to-day, on return io Hastings. Mrs. L. McNeill was a passenger by this morning’s express to Christchurch. Mrs. A. Porter left, this morning, for Christchurch, where she will reside. Mr. E. A. Eagan left to-day for Wellington, where he has accepted a position. Miss Jean Hambleton will leave, on Tuesday, on a visit to Durban, South Africa. Dr. W. McKechnie left by this morning’s air service, on return to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. H. King will leave to-morrow, on a visit to Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. W. O’Brien, formerly of Greymouth, returned yesterday, after three and a-half years in Australia, and are the guests of Mrs. W. Downs,' Runanga. They will reside on the West Coast.

Tho Minister for Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry) yesterday inspected Government housing schemes in Dunedin. He left for Queenstown this morning, where he will spend a short time before returning to Wellington.— Press Association.

The appointment of Mr. S. M. Macalister as Crown Solicitor at Invercargill during the absence from New Zealand of Mr. J. H. Macalister is announced in the New Zealand Gazette. The appointment took effect from March 1.

Mr. C. Cox, of the Public Trust staff, Grey mouth, has received notice of transfer to Christchurch, and will leave early next week. His successor, Mr. J. I. Martin, of the Dunedin branch arrived yesterday afternoon. Mr. Cox was a member of the United senior Rugby team.

To fill the Chair of Law, vacated by Professor Algie, at Auckland University College, Professor Julius Stone arrived by the Rangitata, with his wife (and child. After leaving Oxford in 1928, he went to Leeds University, for research, and later to Hull University College. He was elected a Fellow of Sociai Science of the Rockefeller Foundation, and studied at Harvard University. He returned to Leeds two years ago, whence he was appointed to 1 Auckland. —Press Assn.

The death occurred at her residence, Ngahere, this morning, of Mrs. Minnie Holling, a native of Greenstone, aged 73 years. Deceased, who had been in ill-health for the past two years, was a well-known resident of the Ngahere district, where she had resided for the past 30 years. Her husband Henry Holling, predeceased her about 20 years ago. She is survived by five daughters, Mesdames C. Gilman (Ngahere), W. Bailey (Blackball), K. Rooney (Kokiri), W. Shand (Hokitika) and Miss A. Holling (Hokitika) and three sons, Henry (Otaki), Leonard (Christchurch) and Frank (Ngahere). The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon, leaving the residence at 1 o’clock, for the Ngahere Cemetery.
