Damages amounting to £514/4/wore awarded in the Supreme Court by Mr. .lustice Northcroft in a case in which Frederick Leonard Wallace, the infant son of George Scott Wallace, claimed .£9(10/8/- damages from Graham B. Blointield, arising out of injuries received in a collision between two motor-cycles on February, 19, 1938. TAXI-DRIVER INJURED TAIHAPE. March 8. An injury to his left knee was suffered by 0. R. Manson, a. taxi-driver of Wellington, when his car capsized on the Main South Road near Taihape yesterday afternoon. Manson was travelling north accompanied ■ by his mother and sister when he met a moi) of sheep. The car collided with the hank when the brakes were applied. Manson and his mother were admitted to hospital, and the latter was discharged later in the day.
SUSPECTS ARRESTE D. AUCKLAND. March 8. A gradually-widening search by pollice and detectives, throughout. North Auckland, for three men suspected of converting two ears and of entering a garage al Helensville on Tuesday night, had a startling sequel at midday to-day, when a. youth was admitted to hospital, and two others were arrested, following on a motor collision near Rawene. In less than 12 hours the scene .))’ police activity moved over 150 miles of highway from Helensville to Rawene. where the second of the cars alleged to have been stolen was stated to have been' recovered, WATERFRONT CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON. March 9. The conference called by Mr Webb, concerning conditions of waterfront, work, opened with a large attendance from all over the Dominion. It was addressed by Mr Webb, who presided, and the Minister of Finance (Mir Nash), Transport (Mr Semple), and Housing (Mr Armstrong). At the one o’clock adjournment, Mr Webb expressed himself as being very pleased' with the spirit shown on both sides, and the equal desire to cooperate with him. The spirit of cooperation shown was such that he felt sure something really worth while would he evolved.
LORD NUFFIELD SAILS. WELLINGTON, March 9. Two school-mates. Lord Nuffield and Mi-. Frederick Polly, of Wellington, had an informal chat, last night. They were boys together at Cork, at Cowley College, and at Oxford. Mr. Polly discovered that, his former schoolmaster was still alive, and that he corresponded with and still visited Lord Nuffield. Lord Nuffield said that he noticed a. great, improvement in the roads in New Zealand since he was here 11 years ago. lie appreciated the fact that ([nite a lot of it was due to Mr. Semple, whom he considered was a man who got things done.
