CITIZENS’ PROTEST MEETING. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, March 9. A largely-attended citizens’ meeting soundly criticised the Federal Government, for maintaining the embargo on New Zealand potatoes, and passed a resolution, demanding the immediate lifting of the embargo. The resolution was put to the meeting by Sir Frederick Stewart, M. P. The chairmin, Mr. R. B. Walker. M.L.A.. said that the potato embargo had restricted inter-Empire trade, by reducing trade between the sister Dominions, adding that the position was ‘‘stupid and ridiculous.” Mr. Stewart said: ‘‘This matter is an example of the narrow, paiochial view, which appears to dominate national policy. To-dfly you are* pay ins £35 per ton for potatoes, 'Which should be. available at half that price. How much longer are you going to tolerate it?"
