TIMBER WAGONS

STATIONMASTER’S STATEMENT. A statement was made in the “Star" yesterday, in commenting on congestion of shipping that “Greymouth, in common with other ports, has also been experiencing a' shortage of wagons for timber, but Railways Department oflicals have been endeavouring to meet the position." The stationmaster at Greymouth. Mr L. L. Marshall, stated, to-day. that his investigations into the alleged shortage of wagons for timber, disclosed a. certain tightness in the available supply of this class of wagon, at the end of last week, owing to the s.s. Matthew Flinders discharging a large quantity of heavy and bulky dredge machinery, which required to be loaded on to timber wagons. This temporarily reduced the number of wagons ordinarily available for timber loading. Mr Marshall added that the supply of timber wagons since the beginning of this week wa's adequate to meet all timber loading requirements.
