“STENT NECKLACE

A pleasant day's rowing was witnessed on Lake Brunner on Sunday afternoon, the central attractions being the contest for the “Stent Necklace.” presented to the Moana Regatta Club by Mr. Stent, of Greymouth. The donor witnessed the races and expressed satisfaction at the manner in which they were conducted. The conditions were that a rower had to he nominated by a lady, and the man who won the race had to present, the necklace to the lady who nominated him. Twen-ty-eight rowers were nominated and four heats and a final were rowed before the winner was decided. In the final, a slight mishap occurred, in which four of the leading boats were, involved in a. foul which kept them out of rhe race. However, the race was a good try-out for the rowers, being their final rowing, before going to take part in the Lyttelton Regatta, next Saturday. Mr. Stent presented the winners with the necklace, and also other trophies. Results: — Ladies’ Rowing: Messrs. J. R. McKenzie’s handbag was won by Miss E. Hahn. Mrs. Phillipson’s trophy was won by Miss P. Heeney. John Burns’ trophy was won by Mrs. Phillipson. This race was run over a period of three Sundays.
