DUKE OF KENT AS MEMBER. [By CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.! (Recd. February 7, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Februarj’ 6. The Duke of Kent, speaking at the dinner of the New Zealand Society, of which he has accepted membership, announced that he and 1 the Duchess would visit New Zealland in 1940, at which the Chairman (Mr Jordan) led enthusiastic applause.

The Duke of Kent added: We shall ;ry, by personal efforts, more closely :o unite the Commonwealth of Na-

tions. We shall practise what we are now preaching, when we visit New Zealand. I want to see the country, and to see the Maoris, if possible. I shall think not only of the beauty of the scene, but all for which it stands in your and our eyes. New Zealand is a magic word. It conjures up fascinating pictures of a. country with wonderful scenery, apart from its wonderful grazing and dairy resources.

Sir T. Inskip pa A id a tribute to New Zealand’s enterprise. The 400 distinguished guests included Lord Bledisloe. A nine-foot model of a Maori war canoe adorned central table. The occasion, was the ninety-ninth anniversary of the Treaty of Waitangi.

CENTENNIAL EXHIBIT.

In the Commons, Mr Hudson announced that the Government 'would participate officially in the New Zealand Hentennial Exhibition, -with a special pavilion, illustrating the development of transport on land’ and sea, and in the air, showing how it. had facilitated Inter-Empire communications.
