CRICKET. United v. Marist B, to-morrow: Coffey, Callen, Lindley, Taylor, Allen, Sandman, Ellis, Baird, Joseph, Swinburne, Sorensen, Malloy (12th man). AMATEUR ATHLETICS At a meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the Blackball Sports Club was granted permission to include two amateur events in its meeting, subject to the usual conditions being complied with. Comment on a letter from the New Zealand Association stating that the application for the reinstatement of J. J. Devonport had been declined because he had been an amateur and had turned professional, was received from the Greymouth Club. The club’s letter said that Devonport was an amateur in Christchurch, and when he went to the West Coast there was no amateur body functioning there, and it was due to this that he ran as a professional. He was, therefore, in the same position as the local men on the Coast who had joined up with the professional bodies there and had since been reinstated. The club requested that representations on these lines be made to the New Zealand Association. It was decided to send the letter to the New Zealand Association.

The Greymouth Club was granted permission for its club members to compete in a meeting at Ikamatua on February 25. It was decided to recommend the reinstatement of J. O’Leary, a member of the club, provided fuller information was received.
