BRITAIN’S EXPORT TRADE

CREDIT FACILITIES.

[BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.]

RUGBY, February 2.

The House of. Commons, to-day, gave a second reading to a Bill providing for the taking of a census of production and finished the committee stages of a Bill extending the powers of the Board of Trade to give a guarantee up to a maximum of £75,000,000 sterling instead of £50,000,000 sterling, as at present, for establishing or encouraging overseas trade. Replying to the debate, Mr. R. S. Hudson, Secretary of the Department of Overseas Trade, mentioned that the new’ increase in the capital commitments of the Export Credits Guarantee Fund since tlie Bill w’as introduced, last December, yvas £1,500,000. At that time there had been a balance of about £6,000,000 available under the old maximum. How’ long the new’ maximum would suffice depended on the degree to w’hich industries availed themselves of these facilities. He reminded the House that his department was urging upon export industries the desirability of organising themselves to meet modern conditions in world markets.
