HOKITIKA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA. February 1. On Thursday evening. Miss June Armstrong, who proceeds to the Teachers' Training College, to-day, was presented by All Saints’ Choir and Sunday School teachers with a. clock, as an appreciation of her work in. those branches of the church. She is also one of the assistant-organists. The Vicar (Rev. D. D. Thorpe) made the presentation, and referred to the work always well and cheerfully done bv the recipient. On behalf of the cho’.r. teachers, and congregation, he wished her well.

Reference has been made by motorists on the main highway between Greymouth and Hokitika, to the markings on the road at the approaches to one-waj r bridges. The markings, in a couple ” of instances, traverse „ the bridges and lead the unwary new chum” at night to imagine the bridges “two-way,” and come to grief. Among the many who lost their all in the recent bush fires in Australia, were Mr. and Mrs. Greenwood. Mrs. Greenwood was a Kumara native, being a daughter (Eva) of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ward, of Blake's tram, Kumara. They saved the lives of themselves and family by running to a recently ploughed field.
