Mr. J. F. Rasmussen, stationmaster in charge at Westport, retired on Thursday from the Railways Department, after 40 years’ service.

A cablegram from The Hague stated that it was officially announced that Princess Juliana is expecting a> baby in mid-August

Mrs. H. R. Fell, who will leave shortly for Wellington, was farewelled yesterday afternoon, by members of the P.W.M.U., at the residence of Mrs. J. A. Shannon, Shakespeare Street. Mrs. Fell was presented with, a crystal sweet dish, and a crystal vase. Mrs. T. Brown, on behalf of the gathering, expressed regret at the departure of the guest, but wished her and her husband and family every health and happiness in Wellington.
