TRAINING A FALLACY

“NO LASTING BENEFITS.”

LONDON, December 8. Georges Hackenschmidt, the former world champion wrestler, who was for many years admitted to be the strongest man in the world, told an audience in London last night that he had never trained. He was lecturing at the New Arts and Letters Club, on “The Fallacy of Training.” “I am not a product of training,” said Mr. Hackenschmidt. “1 never learned any wrestling tricks or holds and my success in wrestling and feats of strength did not come as a result of training. In a normal modern environment, he said, intensive physical training was not only necessary for the average man, it was even detrimental. There were no lasting benefits, for the benefits began to disappear as soon as training was abandoned.
