(Received January 20, 1 p.m.) LONDON. January 19. At the wool sales, 9522 wales were offered, including 4727 New Zealand; 8022 were sold. There was a moderate selection. The demand was active, the Home trade bidding freely for New, Zealand crossbreds, which were well cleared. Withdrawals were frequent among the inferior offerings, owing to firm limits. Rates generally were, well maintained. New Zealand greasy crossbred J.D.W./Ngatapa. 9i[d and lObd. WANGANUI CHEQUE. ( WANGANUI, January 20. About. £350,000 will be distributed among Wanganui wool growers as a result; of yesterday’s sale. The first shipment of wool sold yesterday was made to Wellington to-day, and 1 comprised a small lot bought by Japanese buyers. It will be transhipped to the Awatea, for Sydney.

STUD STOCK.

WELLINGTON, January 20

To improve the standard of Hocks in New South Wales 400 stud Southdown ewes and lambs were shipped in the Wanganella, last evening, for Sydney. The sheep were from the Carrington stud of W. Howard' Booth, Carterton. and were the main portion of the entire flock, 457 being sold to AV. J. McSweeney, the. Rivers Station, New South Wales. The remainder will be shipped by the Awatea next week’.

Their departure brings to a close the history of a stud flock held in high repute among Southdown breeders of the Dominion for its high quality. It was founded 30 years ago by the purchase of a hundred ewes and a ram, and was one of the oldest Southdown flocks in New Zealand.

The Stock Exchange Association has received the following advice: G. J. Coles have declared an interim dividend on ordinary shares for the half year ended December 31, of 15 per cent. RESERVE BANK. The Reserve Bank’s sterling exchange holding has risen by £439,254 to £4,373,105 in New Zealand currency. The proportion of reserve to notes and other demand liabilities has risen from 25.526 to 26.782. The note issue shows a shrinkage of £297,160, State deposits have risen by £180,555, and those of the banks by £631,496. Advances to the Primary Products Marketing Department are down by £139,795, but those for other purposes have risen by £140,000 to £10,970,000. PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE. Statement, for December.—Estates of a. value of £383.656 were reported and accepted for administration by the Public Trustee during the month c.f December. 1935. The total value of the estates and funds under administration by the Public Trustee on March 31, 1938, was £60,815,306, and the new business for the nine months ended December 31. 1938, was £!,- 751, 319. Grants of administration made by the Court in favour of the Public Trustee numbered 177 for the month.

During the month 418 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were prepared on behalf of testators and lodged for safe custody, a.nd 347 existing wills were revised to provide for changes desired by testators.
