“SNOBBERY” ON GOLF COURSE

COUNCILLOR’S COMPLAINT. LONDON, December 8. The Hastings Town Council yesterday decided to make a grant of £lO9 ?, year to the Hastings Golf Club, on condition that, ratepayers be allowed to play at half the usual green fee, ami that the Council be given representation on the committee of the club.

Councillor Hickes, moving that the grant be made only on these conditions, said it seemed a social injustice to make a grant to the club the members of which could afford extra, subscriptions to keep the. club on an even keel.

Councillor Riddle said that attempts had been made to broaden the scope of the club by the formation of a citizen's section for working men. The two sections, however, did not intermingle. A colossal snobbery existed in the club. There were members who could write a cheque for £1,099 and not miss it.
