WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS The annual West Coast Tennis Championships tournament commenced al. Hokitika yesterday, on the Jubilee and Hokitika courts. Conditions were not favourable for tennis, rain preventing play until 1 pan. A number of close games were witnessed during the afternoon, particularly in the women’s singles championship. Results were:--

Men’s Championship Singles: First round: Carr defeated Kotlowski 6/0. 6/1; Warnes defeated Potts 7/5. 6/2; Aitken defeated Nottle 6/1, 7/5. Second Round: Smith defeated Hurren 6/1, 6/0. The junior tennis championships were resumed to-day, the courts being very fast. It is a fine, sunny day, with a tricky cross-wind.
