The Suez Canal Company is reducing the toll on loaded ships on Decern ber 15, from six shillings to five shillings per ton.
QUAKE IN JAPAN.
TOKIO, December 13.
A strong earthquake shock in Eastern Japan stopped the clocks. Little damage is reported.
TOURIST TRAFFIC. LONDON, December 13. Sir E. Geddes, presiding at the annual meeting of the Orient Line, said that the European situation had badly affected the flow of passengers. Ships had failed to earn depreciation during the past eight years. He paid a tribute to the National Travel Association. which was encouraging traffic. Tourist spendings in Australia were estimated at £1,700,000, and were greater than the wine and timber exports. The programme for the transport of assisted migrants should be worked out. beforehand, if it were to be carried out economically.
