£12,000 DISTRIBUTIONS

[per press association.]

WELLINGTON, December 8

The sum of £12,000 from art union funds is being allocated by the Government as a, Christmas gift to a number of philanthropic and kindred institutions in Nev/ Zealand. The money which forms the grants comes from the accumulated surplus profits of the £5OOO alluvial gold art unions conducted during the year. The practice has been for some time to allocate £5OOO, after the drawing of each art union, to the various Mayoral relief funds of the Dominion. The balance of the profits is kept until a sufficient sum has been gathered for special distribution among needy institutions.
