STOLEN POSTAL PACKETS. GORE, November 15
Raymond Hanna Lavender, aged 23 years, married, pleaded guilty to four charges of theft of postal packages, valqed at £2/10/-, at the Gore Magistrate’s Court. He was committed to the Supreme Court, Dunedin, for sentence.
BODY FOUND. CHRISTCHURCH, November 14
The body of a man, identified as Robert Ingram Boys, who had been missing from his home, 28 Mayfield’ Avenue, since 6.30 a.m. on Saturday, was found in a paddock off Bottle Lake Road, near Preston’s Road, at 6.20 p.m. to-day. He had left home on an old bicycle and was wearing old working clothes and leather slippers at the time. THEFT CHARGE. BLENHEIM. November 15. The Blenheim sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning, before Mr. Justice Reed. There was only one criminal case for trial, involving a charge of theft against Reginald Joseph Gould Parfitt. 28. labourer of Picton, who was accused of stealing £46/13/- from the safe of the Federal Hotel, Picton. A true bill was returned by the Grand Jury.
ARBITRATION COURT. - AUCKLAND, November 14. After a long sitting in Auckland the Arbitration Court will leave on Wednesday for Hamilton. The Court under the presidency of Mr Justice O’Regan has been busily engaged in Auckland since the beginning of August. It will begin its sitting in Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon and remain there for about a week before going to Rotorua, where it will be; occupied for four or five days. Two or three days will be required for Gisborne sittings and one week for business at Napier. It is hoped to be able to open the Court’s sittings in Wellington on December 9. POVERTY BAY OIL. GTSBORNE, November 14. Drilling plant representing an outlay of £70,000, operated by overseas drilling experts and New Zealandtrained labour, provided the Minister of Mines, Hon. P. C. Webb, and the Minister of Transport, Hon. R. Semple, with an unusual spectacle yesterday, when they visited Totaiigi, the site where the New Zealand Petroleum Company is sinking the first experimental bore in search of a commercial flow of petroleum. The party included Mr C. Pinkerton (U.S. Consul-General), Mr D. W. Coleman M.P., Mr H. H. Sterling (a Director of the Company), Mr J. H. Lindon (General Manager of the Vacuum Oil Coy.), Mr A. Tyndall (Under-Secretary for Mines), and Mr J. Wood. (Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department). The Ministers were informed that the drill has reached a depth of 1.300 feet, It is now operating in hard sandstone rock. The Ministers expressed gratification at the efficiency of the New Zealand-trained labour engaged.
