October 12, 13— Masterton. October 15, 17—Avondale. October 20, 22, 24— Wellington. October 22 24—Gore. October 24—North Canterbury. October 2— Waverley. October 24—Waikato Hunt. October 27, 29—Poverty Bay Turf. October 29—Banks Peninsula. October 29—Rangitikei. October 29—Rotorua-Bay of Plenty.

Silver Ring: The New Zealander Silver Ring has the top weight of 9.5 in the Rowley Mile, and 9.2 in the Quality Handicap at the Hawkesbury meeting next Saturday. Masterton Dates:

To meet the -wishes of owners and trainers' the Masterton Racing Club will hold its meeting on October 12 and 13. The original dates ( clashed with the date of the General Election.

Warning to Public: According to a Sydney cablegram, the trainer George Price warns- the public that Gold Rod, who is a prominent Metropolitan candidate, will not start in that race if the course is wet. Randwick Derby:

After payment of forfeit for. the A.J.C. Derby, the only New Zealand horses left in were the Pombal —Episode colt Brazil, owned by Mr R. H. Lowry, and the colt by Gainsborough —Beth, in the nomination of Mr C. L. McDonald. No doubt these are oversights, and New Zealand’s representation this year will be confined to the Sydney-owned Limulet.

A Massive Juvenile:

Gold, Salute, who filled: second place in the John Grigg Stakes at Ashburton on Saturday, is one of the biggest two-year-olds seen out for some time., He is by Lord Warden from the Paper Money mare, Frenzied Finance, and like many of the Lord Warden brebd will do better with age.

Prqmislhg Dunstan: Dunstan, who won one race in a lim-

ited number of starts, as a two-year-old last season, created a good impression by filling second place to Made Money in the mile and a quarter Ashburton Handicap on Saturday. He was recently purchased by Mr W. J. Dore, former owner of Top Row, from the Central Otago owner, Mr J. Beattie, who purchased him as a yearling at Trentham for 350 guineas. Dunstan is by Siegfried from the Tribulation mare Arbitration, and looks like developing into a useful stayer. He may not be otit of his class in the Geraldine Cup this week.

Gay Parade: . Gay Parade’s win on Saturday was the most pronounced seen on’ the course for a long time. He had given indications of soon opening his winning account by his recent work, but to beat a field as 1 pointlessly as he did was not fully expected. He was bred'by his owner, Mr F. T. Buchanan, of Rolleston, who raced the dam, Gay Sonnet with much success in all parts of the South Island. Gay Parade has not been asked to do much racing to date, and the patient policy adopted with him by his present trainer should allow him to reach much better class than that represented by Saturday’s field.

NOTES FROM RICCARTON. [special to "stab.”] RICCARTON, September 20. The Riccarton tracks benefited by Saturday night’s, rain, and the trial grass this morning provided excellent going. Trench Fight opened the proceedings by galloping a mile in 1.44 1-5, the first half in 51 2-5. Disdain covered six furlongs in 1.19, the first four in 52secs. Wild Chase gave an indication of his forward condition by reeling off half a mile, in 49 2-5. Keen Sight was going better than Harwick at the end of half a. mild in 51 1-5.

Asset sprinted three furlongs in 37 4-5.

Night Dress and Defaulter went well ever six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, the second three taking 38 1-5, finishing together. Sparkle and Colonel Rouge took 1.19 for the same journey.

Argentic had a strong gallop over seven furlongs in 1.33. Gillie beat Tantivy over half a mile in 49 1-5. The latter, by Hunting Song, is in Nurse’s stable, and shows a lot of promise. The Masquerader ran the same distance in 45secs. Second Innings beat Lord Hawke and Wanda in 50secs.

The best half was done by Kilrobe, who ran up the back in 48secs. .Night Hawk galloped five furlongs In 1.3 2-5, the last four in 49 2-5. Financiere and Potent finished together, clear of Great Bramble, over the same journey in 1.5. Nightcalm, assisted by Royal Baby, ran six in 1.17. Others over this journey were: —Screamer and Gironde 1.17 4-5, Recollection and Flame Queen 1.17 4-5, Romarin 1.18 3-5, and Dracula 1.18 2-5.

Wine Card covered a mile in 1.44. Roy Bun has been an absentee since he was galloped last Thursday. Evidently he ricked himself, and although he is recovering satisfactorily, it was deemed advisable to put him aside for a while.

Pipiwhauroa jumped six hurdles in a dashing manner, Sir Rosenor gave a fair display over four hurdles.

MEETINGS TO COME

September 24. —Wellington. October I.—Methven. October B.—New Brighton. October 22, 24.— Greymouth. October 22, 24.—Auckland. October 24.—Oamaru, October 29.—Invercargill. October 29—Thames.

Waikato Trots: Because the date selected for the Waikato Trotting Club’s spring meeting (October 15) falls on election day, it was decided at a meeting of the committee to postpone the> meeting and make application to the Trotting Conference, for December 10. The club holds its summer meeting on December 3. This means it would have two Saturdays in succession.

Isobe! Derby: Although she appeared to be in excellent order, Isobel Derby’s recent track work did not please her trainer, and it has been decided to give her a short spell. She has always l been a difficult mare to get to her best, as her erratic form has often indicated, hut when she is moving freely she is a most capable pacer, especially over two miles.

A Useful Pacer: . J. Bell, jun., has in Dancing Pirate a four-year-old that gives promise of developing into a good stake-winner. He is by a champion racehorse in Man. o’ War from Doll Dance, who was by -Oinako from a Brent Locanda mare. Dancing Pirate was bred by Bell, who also raced his dam some years ago.

At Ashburton: Pecunia, winner of the Selma fl rot Handicap, at Ashburton on Saturday, is an aged gelding, by Worthy Bond from a Goldwood mare. He has done little racing, and this marked his first success. He is trained atrPleasant Point by D. Teahen. and this gave the South Canterbury trainer his second success in a week, the other having been gained with Guncase at. New Brighton. An unusual feature of the betting was the strong support, accorded Pecunia < n the win machine, on which he was second favourite, while on the place machine he was onlv eleventh fancy.
