SYDNEY WOOL SALE. [by CABLE —PBISS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (SYDNEY. September 5. At the wool sales to-day 12,021 bales were offered, of which 10,520. were sold and 131 S disposed of privately. Competition to-day was- a- little more general, with prices firm at the closing rates of last week. Continental buying again predominated, with, good support-from Japan. Greasy merino made 16d. The average price, of wool last week was £l2/11/3 a hale and 9.4 d per lb. LONDON MARKETS. LONDON, September 4. The beha viour of London markets in a critical week commended general admiration. The machinery of business functioned normally, and there was not the slightest difficulty in dealing with the majority of investors. Gilt-edged was the only section of the market in which business was substantial, but the small extent of the declines indicates widespread confidence that there will not be a war, though there is no disposition to minimise the gravity oi the crisis. The technical position in London at present is exceptionally sound, and there is no doubt that a clarification of the international situation will lead to a rush of funds for investment, especially as the evidence indicates that the United States recovery is gathering momentum. Bradford is gratified at the strength of the French and German demand at the Australian wool sales, and Bradford merchants are satisfied with wool at its present reasonable basis. Butter is slightly harder, but there is little activity. New Zealand stocks are definitely in short supply and the strength of them is assisting other descriptions, but it is still difficult to make higher prices. Canadian shipments are arriving on a consignment basis. Prospects for eggs appear favourable. Home and Continental production is falli’ off rapidly.
