BRIGHTER CELLS
LUXURIES FOR PRISONERS. LONDON, August 6. Men and women prisoners in London police station cells are to have better accommodation under a new scheme that will be introduced next month. In many of the Central London divisions special cells are being prepared for women. They are being fitted with basins, liquod soap containers, mirrors and toilet requisites. The accommodation in many of the London police stations is held to be unsuitable for the detention of women prisoners overnight, and under the new scheme depot stations will supply accommodation for them. Matrons* will serve at these stations. Men prisoners are to have free newspapers writing materials, hand towels and meals supplied from the police canteens. The supply of mattresses isi also being considered to augment the blankets used on the plank beds.
