jouii OWN CORRESPONDENT,] There was an attendance of about 150 ai an invitation concert held in aid of the Kotare Domain in the Miners’ Hall last evening. The concert was organised by the W.E.A. Drama Circle who staged two plays, and a. number of assisting local talent added variety to the performance. JVlrs. R. Smith, of Grevmouth. gave two interesting monologues, and Miss A. Radcliffe was well received in her two vocal numbers. Messrs. H. Booth, and W. Wright were encored for their solos, and Mr. \V. Williamson gave several selections on the piano-accordeon. Miss Jean Duggan was the accompanists. The first of the one-act plays presented was entitled “A World Without. Men,” the characters being as follow: —Millet, the maid (Mrs. J. Smith); Miss Whisper. a reporter (Miss M. Mann); Madame Pavel (.Mrs. S. Braithwaite); Mrs. Smith (Mrs. B. Smith); Mrs. Robinson (Miss M. Tyson); Mrs. Brown (Miss N. Storie); Mrs. Jones (Mrs. T. Millar). The story told of the ingenuity- of a woman scientist who discovered a means of ridding the world of men. and of the amusing consequences when it was found that, still one man remained.

The second play. “Men are Missing.” also depended on humour for its interest, and dealt with, the scandal and gossip in tiie home of a socialite when entertaining guests. Men were the main cause of the trouble in this play. also. The characters were: The Hostess (.Mrs. Barker). Lady Nora (Miss Wylde), an actress (Miss Storie), the Vicar’s wile. (Miss Tyson). Miss Prudwortliy (Mrs. Millar), a novelist (.Mrs. Braithwaite). Madame Selenik (Miss E. Malpass). .Mrs. Delamain (Miss D. Cannel), the maid (Miss I. MtH pass),'two burglars (Misses Mann and A. Smith). Mr. F. Oakley (Deputy Mayor) apologised for the absence of the Mayor, and stated tnai. Hie proceeds of the concert were to be. spent, on the Children’s Park.
