HIGH TIDES

W’TON POWER SUPPLY CHECKED. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, July 4. An extraordinary succession of high tides in Wellington Harbour resulted in considerable interruption of the power supply in the mid-city area. Last night several of the tramcars were unable to get back from their late trips, to the barns, owing to the power failure. This morning, at about 10 o’clock, the tide was again exceptionally high, and water again invaded a tunnel carrying feeder lines to the main city sub-station and waterfront. By the use of alternative circuits,, the trouble was minimised, and the tram service kept normal, but there were curious effects in many city buildings, where one section of the building would be lit and supplied with power, while another pari, was in darkness and without power. It is hoped to restore all services during the day..
