SCHOOL HEADMASTERSHIP

NEW ZEALANDER’S APPOINTMENT [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] MELBOURNE, May 18. Mr. Joseph Richard Sutcliffe, headmaster of Scots College, Wellington, has been appointed headmaster of tho Melbourne Church of England Grammar School, in succession to Mr. D. S. Colman, of England, ’ whose health has compelled his retirement after a year of office. Mr. Sutcliffe, who is at present in Melbourne, will return to New Zealand shortly before taking up his duties at tho beginning of the third term in August.

Mr. Sutcliffe was born at Bulls, New Zealand, in 1897, and was educated at the Palmerston North High School, where he was a dux medallist, and was awarded a university bursary. At Victoria University College, Wellington, he graduated Bachelor of Science. He is an execiitive member of the Association of Headmasters’ Registered Secondary Schools of New Zealand and a member of the University Entrance, Board. He was assistant master Wellesley Boys’ College,[ Wellington. He had been headmaster of Scots College for eight years. Mr. Sutcliffe is the second New Zealander to be appointed to an important church school in Melbourne in recent years. The other is Mr. Colin Gilray, of Dunedin, who became head Of Scots College.
