By a unanimous vote, Mr. J. A. McLean was re-elected chairman of the North Auckland Electric-Power Board yesterday. Mr. McLean has been chairman since 1924, and a member since 1916. —Press Association.

The funeral of the late John Samuel Lane took place yesterday afternoon, at the Karoro Cemetery. The services at the residence of deceased’s sister, Mrs. C. Corbin, Byron .Street, and at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. W. Wills.

Mr. Justice Quilliam, appointed temporary judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in by the Chief Justice at Hamilton yesterday. He arrived at Wellington to-day, and will hear undefended divorce petitions, to-morrow. —Press Assn.

Mr. R. J. Plank, West Coast salesman for the Va'cuum Oil Company, Pty. Ltd., for the past three years, has received notice of transfer to Hawera. and will leave Greymouth about the end of next month. He’ will be succeeded by Mr. Smith, of the Wellington office.

The London “Evening News” announces the engagement of the sixtyfive year old Polish nobleman, Prince Michael Radziwill, to Mrs. Harriet Stewart Dawson, formerly of Melbourne. Prince Radziwill is a cousin of the ex-Kais&r. Mrs. Dawson says she will be married probably next week.

Mr. Nixon has had extensive journalistic experience, including the editorship of the “Christchurch Star,” the assistant editorship of the “Lyttelton Times,” and the financial editorship of the “Christchurch Star-Sun.”—Press. Mr. A. D, Mercer has been appointed the Department of Agriculture Fields Instructor for the West Coast district, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. J. Stevenson. Mr. Mercer received his agiicultural education at the University of Reading, England. During the past twelve years he has been engaged in farming pursuits in Australia and New Zealand. His headquarters will be Grevmouth and he will take up his duties about the middle of June.
