She was previously] convicted. in 1912 and 1918. HAND BLOWN OFF. ’ DUNEDIN. April 22. Working at Manuka Creek in the Lawrence district on Sunday, Stanley Boatwood, agfed 35, employed on the public works, had his right hand blown off by an explosion of gelignite. Boatwoodi was blowing up stumps when the explosion occurred. He was removed to the Milton Hospital in a critical condition. LORRY KILLS CHILD. HAMILTON, April 28. A fatal accident occurred at Nixon Street, Hamilton East, late, yesterday, Betty Theresa Dalgety,. aged siy, daughter of C. J. S. Dalgety, Nixon Street, being struck by a lorry and killed. The child was riding a tricycle, andwas struck by the back wheel of the lorry, which is owned, by the Hamilton Borough Council, and driven by Cedric Waters. She died before she could be taken to the hospital. MARKET GARDENS. WELLINGTON, April 28. . Conditions, of employment for agricultural workers employed' in market gardens (including market gardens where soft fruit is. produced) in the Wellington and Nelson industrial districts, are prescribed, in the Agricultural Workers’ Extension Order issued with the Gazette. It isi possible that the order may be extended to other districts later. ’ The order, which came into force on April 22, provides for a 4-hour five and a -half day week, and: for an annual holiday of one week. Wages for youths aged from 15 to 17 are £1 a week, and increase, according to the age of the workers, to 60/- for those aged 20 to 21. Thereafter adult rates apply. Adult weekly workers will receive £4 a week, and casuals 2/- an hour. Female adults will receive £2 8/- a week. A male adult worker receiving more than £4 a week is to receive an increase of not less than 2/6 a week on his present wage.
