at kumara. Mr A. B. Spiers, present. Mayor of Kumara, was the only nomination for the Kumara Mayoralty, and he will be re-elected unopposed. For nine seats on the Kumara Borough Council, only l nine nominations were received, and the nominees, will be elected unopposed as follow:- D. A McLean, AV. Lawrence. R. J. Little, A. E. Langham, C. Passmore. F. AV. Wise. J. J. Pamment. S. Harris, and T Murphv. Messrs Passmore and Murphy were the only members of the present Council nominated for reelection. For the position of Medical Representative of the Combined Boroughs of Kumara and Ross on the Westland Hospital Board. Messrs A. E. Langham and G. E. Kilkenny) was returned unopposed for a third term of office. The following is the list of nominations (sitting members are indicated by an asterisk). April 28. “The City Council is to be heartily congratulated on its achievements,” i said the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, in presenting a review of the finances of the city for the last year. He said a balanced budget for the city was now in sight, this being the outcome of last year’s operations in particular, and of three years of prudent administration in general. In the actual rating accounts the year just closed had yielded a surplus, in the case of the self-contained waterworks account the debit balance was £17,266 below (lie figure budgeted for. These, results were outstanding, demonstrating the careful control of the financial affairs of the city, without detriment to the policy of progressive development. GORE. GORE, April 2S. For the Mayoralty, Alexander T. Newman was elected 1 unopposed. There are 17 candidates for rhe 12 Council seats. Fof the Mataura Mayoralty, the candidates are John Buchanan (sitting), Charles D. McConnell, ex-Mayor. There are fourteen candidate,-si for the nine Council seats. BLENHEIM BLENHEIM, April 29. Three nominations for the Mayoralty are: N. R. McMurtry, C. T. Smith and C. A. Garside. There are fifteen candidates for the nine Borough Council vacancies, five nominations for the four seats on the Harbour Board and five for three seats ou the Hospital Board. There will be no contest for the Power Board.

CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION. [to toe epitor.] Sir. —After perusing the “Evening Star,” I cannot but feel that there is more to this so-called Citizens’ Committee than appears on the surface. I. am sure there are a great many citizens, like myself, who would be glad' to know: Has a meeting of the citizens of Greymouth ever been called to discuss the matter of candidates? Was it a truly l representative committee who considered the selection, or is it a few men taking filie name of the citizens to further their own ends? I have a doubt that the men selected by the so-called citizens’ committee are truly representative of the people of Greymouth. It would appear from the way things are shaping that the Borough election is being tainted with politics, and that the election is a case of one or -two factions getting control; the good of Greymouth being of second consideration—Yours, etc., “UNINVITED CITIZEN.” April 29.
