HOKITIKA SUB CENTRE. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.J HOKITIKA, April 2.8. The first annual meeting of the Hokitika Sub-Centre of the N.Z. Red Cross Society was held in the County Chambers, last evening. Present: Mr P. R. Whitford (chairman), Sister Gillespie, Messrs T. W. Duff, G. Kennedy, H. W. Sweney, J. H. Hardy, F. Ashley, A. Agnew, Dr.. Corban and A. C. Armstrong (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Miss Anderson, Messrs E. L. Park, L. King, L. A. Lewton and Dr. Childs. The Hokitika Scout Group wrote thanking the Sub-Centre for the donation towards its funds. Headquarters advised that the appointment of local examiners was left to sub-centres to make own arrangements. The secretary reported that Dr. Childs would conduct the examination of the first aid class. Miss M. Meads, Matron of the Mental Hospital had partially completed the examination of the nursing class. The Dominion secretary requested a contribution towards the expense of enabling a nurse to attend Bedford College, London, for the purpose of gaining a scholarship under the Florence Nightingale Endowment Fund. The Secretary was instructed to forward one guinea towards the appeal. The report and balance sheet for’ the year was read and adopted. Dr. Corban reported on the first aid class and stated that he had given 18 lectures during the year. The class was excellent and would undergo- the first examination on Monday next. A vote of thanks was accorded Dr. Corban for his services. Sister Gillespie reported that 40 members had been enrolled in the Junior Red Cross at the school, and that instruction was -being given during the hobby period. On behalf of Miss Anderson. Sister Gillespie reported that the Home Nursing Class had completed the first course and that the examination had not been quite completed. A vote of thanks was also accorded Miss Anderson and Sister Gillespie. Mr. J. 11. Hardy was complimented on his assistance in connection with the first aid classes and appreciation expressed at his efforts. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. G. A. Perry; chairman, Air. P. R. Whitford; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. C. Armstrong. It was decided, to reappoint the old committee subject, to the approval of the associated local bodies with the addition of Mi’ F. D. Gillespie, Dr. McFarlane. Sisters MacFarlane and McCallum. Mrs. Corban. Miss M. Meads and Mr. H. Finch. Sub-Committees were set up to deal with the various activities, and the secretary was instructed to ascertain particulars and conditions of admission to the health camps. A vote of thanks was accorded the chairman and secretary for the year’s work.
