MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
CITIZENS’ CANDIDATES. Realising that, for a considerable time, ratepayers and residents generally at Greymouth have been perturbed regarding the state of Borough finances, notwithstanding the fact that substantial increases have been made in the amount of rates demanded, a committee of representatives and responsible citizens has been formed, with a view to securing the election of candidates who will ensure that Borough affairs are put on a satisfactory footing. Now, more than at any previous time, a strong Council is essential, in view of the proposed expenditure of loan moneys totalling nearly £lOO,OOO. Prior to polling day, May 11, the Citizens’ Committee will endeavoui’ to place the true position of Borough finances before the electors. In this connection, the Committee now invites the retiring Mayor and Councillors to make available, publicly, the complete figures. Residents who have the best interests of their town at heart should register their votes for each and all of the citizens’ candidates, the list of, whom will be found on page 1 of this issue. These candidates are pledged to work energetically for the progress of Greyniouth as a whole—P.B.A.
