MEAT EXPORT GRADING
DR. COCKAYNE'S TOOK. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . WELLINGTON, April 28. Agricultural developments in the United Kingdom and other overseas countries, and the operation of the regulations governing the grading of New Zealand meat for export, are to Lo investigated by the DirectorGeneral of Agriculture (Dr. Cockayne). He will leave Sydney tor London on May 25, after attending a meeting of the Australian Agricultural Council, with the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Lee Martin) at Canberra early next month. Arrangements have been made lor Dr. Cockayne to proceed direct to Britain, after attending the meeting of the Australian Agricultural Council, said Mr Lee Martin in an interview. Dr. Cockayne will confer with the meat trade of the United Kingdom, particularly in regard to grading of New Zealand baconers, with a view to ascertaining how the present grading regulations are operating in practice, and if it is necessary to amend them, to bring the regulations into line with consumers!’ requifrtfiuente. He will also investigate the operation of other regulations administered by the Department of Agriculture governing the grading of produceThe opportunity will be taken by Dr. Cockayne to ascertain the latest investigations being made in Britain into animal diseases, and he will advise the Government as to what steps should be taken in the Dominion to deal with this question.
