COBDEN SCHOOL

COMMITTEE’S REPORT d. — The, Chairman of the Cobden School t Committee, Mr. N. 'l'. S. Hayes, will 1 present the following annual report.at 1, this evening’s meeting of house--3 holders: — The year under review has been one of progress and happenings which . augur well for the. future. During the early part of the term, the school >■ suffered a great loss, in the person of ’ Mr. A. L. Edwards. His untiring efj forts were only realised when he had . left our midst. His ability in all , walks of life was a revelation to . many, as well as his qualities as a ' personal friend. A further loss was the resignation of Miss M. Gaynor, who also had proved herself an efficient and capable official. Repla.ce- ; meats have been made and are proving highly satisfactory. With the inclusion of the live-year-old children the roll has increased to a large extent necessitating the provision of a long-fel want, an infantroom. This has been built, adjacent to the school and ‘o house some fifty chidren when furnished. When finally completed this will serve as a cosy spot for the infants, having all modern conveniences. A further gain is the installation of the high pressure water supply, thus doing away with obsolete tanks. As soon as possible, bubble fountains are to be installed. Water is also laid on to outdoor buildings. which, from a hygienic viewpoint, is what is to be desired. During past months, the play ground and surroundings have been put in order, soil carted and grass sown; also a start has been made to repair the tennis court and to extend the asphalt around the school. When completed, this will prove an asset with regard to both room and cleanliness. The work has been in the hands of the Public .Works Department. The members of the Home and School Association have done splendid work during their terms of office in and around the school. Special thanks arc due to them. Our caretaker deserves special thanks for her efforts in the past, the school interior being a credit to her. At the close of the year, a concert was arranged, which proved a great, success in every way. I wish to thank th headmaster and his staff for this splendid effort which assisted toward our annual prize-giving, also I the parents and outside talent who assisted. In conclusion. I wish to thank the Minister of Education, the Board’s representatives and the headmaster and his staff and lastly to acknowledge the efforts of my committee, who shared with me any work appertaining to the welfare of the school.
