THE COMPETITIONS

[to the editor.] Sir, — t have read with much interest the numerous letters, which have appeared during the last few days in the “Star,” regarding the Competitions, and note the expressions of anxiety lest the Festivals should be dropped. 1 am concluding that the interest of the writers is genuine, and think therefore that their suggestions are worth acting upon. It is difficult in some circumstances to carry on with a small committee, and I agree that better results might be achieved by a larger sized executive. 1 suggest as so many, who are unknown fo I lie present committee. are showing interest in the Competitions, that they band together and form an entirely new Society. New ideas can add materially to public interest, especially if the interest and energy apparent in the letters is behind them. After 25 years’ active work on the executive, 1 will be glad to sit back and listen to the Competitions from the “front.” 1 sincerely wish the new committee every success, and will have great pleasure in becoming their first honorary member. The present committee has a small deficit, and Mrs Trott’s suggestion of the “shop day” referred to in one letter, is for the purpose of liquidating this, and obviating the trouble attaching to arranging a concert for the purpose. I am etc., R.T. BUSH. Sec. Competitions Society.
