SYMES DEFEATS WAINWRIGHT. (FEB PBEBB ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. Equalling his provincial record' of 56 3-ssecs., D. H. Symes, the Canterbury ICC ju.dj title-holder, beat the British champion and Olympic and Empire Games representative, Norman Wainwright, by the barest of margins in a 100 yards match race at the tepid baths to-night.

A 220 yards match between Wainwright and L. Newell (Canterbury and Now Zealand champion over this distance) was won by 12 yards by Wainwright, the time 2min 27 3-ssecs., being slightly slower than Newell’s pro jVincial record. COAbT CENTRE MEETING A meeting of the West Coast Swimming Centre was held last evening, there being present Messrs. K. E. Balchin (chairman)', W. Giseking, J. Stokes, W. Payne, A. Fowke, L. B. Galbraith, F. Costello, H. Silcock, and' 1. Elder (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. M. R. Bunt, F. W. Baillie, and G. Walters. Accounts amounting to £l6/8/6 were passed for payment. It was decided to write the Marist, Reefton, Hokitika, Ross' and Cobden Clubs, reminding them of their obligation to pay to the Centre two and a-half per cent, of gross takings at carnivals.
