The engagement is announced of Marjorie Annette, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Colin Fyffe, of Silverstream, to Lindsay Laurence, elder son of Mrs. and the late Mr. William L. Mitchell, of Greymouth.

A London cablegram announced' the death has occurred of Sir Richard Terry an authority on medieval music and the music of the Roman Catholic Church.

'Mr. G. H. McLean, Stationmaster at Greymouth, will leave to-morrow, on transfer to Christchurch as Assistant District Traffic Manager. He will be accompanied by Mrs. McLean and Miss A. McLean. Mr. J. Barnett, of Christchurch, has been appointed relieving Stationmaster at Greymouth.

The death occurred at her residence, Lord Street, this morning, following a long illness, of Miss Catherine Murphy, a native of Victoria. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. P. Blanchfield and one brother, Hugh Murphy. The interment, on Thursday, will be private.

Mr Ira J. Bridger, who has been a member of the Eltham Borough Council for 20 years, 13 continuously as Mayor, "has announced that he will not be a candidate at the May election. Mr Bridger has accepted: the position of director-general and organiser for the N.ew Zealand Red Cross Society, and will lake tip liis duties in May.—Press Assn.

The death has occurred at Parnell, Auckland, of Mrs Mary Cadman, a native of Ayrshire, Scotland, aged) 85 years. She, with her parents, came to Brunner in 1867, when the only transport was the coalboats, and resided there till 'she married. Later, she took up farming with her husband, in the North Island. She is survived: by a family of six, all' in the North. Island, her husband Waving predeceased her 15 years: ago. Mrs, J. Hazeldine of Dobson, is a sister, and Mr Fred Heslin, of Dunollie, is a brother.

The death occurred at. the Grey Hospital, this morning, following a lengthy illness, of Mr Robert Ernest Larcombe. a native of Christchurch, •who had reached his 73rd. birthday today. The late Mr Larcombe came to the West Coast at an early age and had resided here for the greater part of his life. For about 20 years he was engaged in gold-mining and coachdriving. principally in the Maori Gully area. He then moved to North Taranaki and for.six years was engaged on the survey of some of the biggest blocks of land in the King Country. Returning to the West Coast, he again took up coach-driving for about seven years and' was subsequently employed by the Railways Department and the Greymouth Harbour Board. Later, he entered business on his own account in Greymouth as a carrier, finally being appointed caretaker of the Greymouth Technical High School, a position which he held up to the time of his death. He had been an inmate of the Hospital l for the past three weeks. He was a member of the Lodge Mawhera, and formerly took a keen interest in the now defunct Beautifying Society. He isi survived by his wife, and two sons, William (Greymouth) and Leslie (Invercargill); also a brother, William (Waiuta), and a step-sister, Mrs Meahan (Auckland).
