GAS MASKS FOR 2/- A YEAR
DISTRIBUTION by FRANCE. PARIS, March 3. The-mahufactur-e-of- 143,000,000 gas masks for distribution to civilians is provided for in a, new bill to be tabled shortly in the French Parliament. These will not. be kept in store rooms as in Britain, but will be given r out_at once. Each mask will be in an hermetically, sealed tin which must not be opened except in. case of alarm. The masks will become the personal property,, of -householders, — who will pay an annual due of about 2/- on each. Inspectors will make house to house visits from time to time l to see that the masks are kept in order and to collect the dues. Poor people and. children under 16 will be given masks free of charge. It is estimated that the 10,000,000 -masks- req-u'ir-ed will take five years t-dmmnufa-eture. Half-- this number, however, -will be available within two years, and these will be distributed to the cities most exposed to gas attack.
