£1000 FOR TRICKED DOCTOR

| SOVEREIGN'S CASE BAIL. PLYMOUTH, March 3. The ownership of £l,OOO in Bank of England notes advanced as bail in the “Kruger Sovereigns” case and retained for 15 months by the Plymouth police has at last been settled. The money -will be handed to Dr. A. S. Bradlaw, who was tricked of £2,300. This brings to an end an unprecedented case, which began in November, 1936, and in which Hyman Kurasch, 52, a London sports promoter, was sentenced to five years’ penal servitude for fraud. A Plymouth resident, formerly a fworld boxing champion, handed to the, police £l,OOO in Bank of England notes as bail for Kurasch. It was later found that the money was not his property. Bail was refused, and the £l,OOO was retained by the police. The money had been provided by a Glasgow bookmaker, who had received it from Mr. Monty Freeman, a wellknown White City bookmaker. Mr. Freeman applied in November to the Plymouth justices for disposal of the money under the Police Property Act, and claimed it as his. The justices, however, made no order. A decision was reached yesterdav in garnishee proceedings instituted in the High Court by Dr. Bradlaw. It was held by the Master in Chambers that, as the money, was a loan to Kurasch, it was virtually the property of Kurasch. Because Dr. Bradlaw had obtained judgment against Kurc.sch for a greater sum, it was ordered that the £l,OOO should be handed to the doctor.
