THREE AUCKLAND CHARGES [per press association.] AUCKLAND, April 18. A warning that he might be compelled to increase the fines to £lOO again, as a penalty for intoxication while in charge of motor vehicles, was given in the Police Court to-day. by Mr. Hunt. Three men were separately charged with intoxication while in charge of motor cars. One of the charges was stated by the police to have arisen out of an accident on Saturday nigh., in which a passenger was killed on the Great North Road. Harry Patrick Carr, 27. engineer. Huntly, who denied being intoxicated in Symonds Street, early this morning, so that he was unfit to drive, was remanded on bail until to-morrow morning. He has also to be dealt with on a charge, which he admitted, of failing to stop on the signal of a constable. John Frederick Copley. 42. labourer, was remanded by consent to April 26. Bail was allowed. Archie Patchett, 18, garage attendant was remanded until to-morrow, of Mount Turner sufffferffeffdff ffaff ffsi INTOXI GATED DRIVER. PALMERSTON NORTH. April 16. 1 Henry Hector Bell, a taxi-driver, was fined £l5 and his licence was cancelled for 12 months, on a charge of intoxication while in charge of a car. Bell Avas arrested at 1 o'clock this morning by a constable. Avho said that Bell Avas sagging over the wheel. Bell was later certified by a doctor as unfit to drive. INTOXICATED MOTOR CYCLIST. WELLINGTON, April 18. Clarence Leonard Beavis, farm hand, 23, was fined £lO, with costs, by Mr. Stilwell. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, to-day. charged with being intoxicated when in charge of a motor cycle at Takapu. Sub-Inspector McLean said a traffic inspector found defendant lying asleep on top of his motor cycle at 2 a.m. yesterday. . Maurice William Bettericlgs, laPourer, Avas fine £lO, Avith costs, in default three months’ imprisonment, on a similar charge.
