LICENSING COMMITTEE

WESTLAND DECISIONS. The quarterly meeting of the Westland Licensing Committee was held at Hokitika, yesterday; present: Messrs Raymond Ferner, S.M. (chairman), T. R. Chesterman, J. B. Kent, and J. Kyle. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. McGregor and J. Goodall.

Inspector Scott and Sergeant Gilligan, represented the police, Mr T. E. Shou the Health Department, and Messrs M. B. James, A. R. Elcock and J. W. Hannan (Greymouth) the various applicants, while Mr C. H. Hoskin, Inspector of Awards, was also present.

Renewals were granted as follow:— Murphy’s Hotel, Kumara,, W. Benyon ; City Hotel, Ross, Matthew Nolan; Gilmer’Hotel, Greymouth, W. E. Roberts; Duke of Edinburgh Hotel. Greymouth, Anne Mclntyre; Paroa Hotel, Paroa; Empire Hotel, Hokitika, R. Furness. The following applications for renewals were adjourned until the next quarterly meetingin March: Occidental ’ Hotel, Hokitika, D. F. Freitas; Dominion Hotel, Hokitika, Spencer E. Browne. Transfers granted:—-Empire Hotel, Hokitika, R. Furness to E. T. Sheriff; Commercial Hotel, Nelson Creek, to R. Scott; Suburban Hotel, Greymouth, E. M. Quinn to J. McGrath; Edward Dingle Davis, Clydesdale Hotel, Ross, to Frederick James Poole; Erie C. H. Chisnail, Lake lanthe Hotel, Pukekura, to Walter Charles Chisnall. The i Bench granted applications for certificates of waiver' in regard to the following transfers:—William Flail, Dunedin Hotel, Hokitika, to Thomas William Butler;’ Frederick James Poole, Empire Hotel, Ross, to Burthe'r Burton Daily;
