REEFTON, December 9.

The adjourned annual meeting of the Motueka Licensing Committee was held at the Court House, Reefton, today, Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., being Chairman. Applications .by W. J-. Chettle for the renewal of a publican’s license for the Exchange Hotel, Reefton, and by J. F. Baxter for the renewal of accommodation license for Top House Accommodation House, were both granted. Mrs. I. W. Stallard was granted, at the quarterly meeting of the Committee, a permanent transfer of the license of Dawson’s Hotel, Reefton, to Frederick Keating. Mr. Raymond Ferner presided at a sitting of the Warden’s Court. The following applications were heard: Miss S. M. Morris for an extension of time for hearing of an application. — Granted. T. C. Irving for an ordinary prospecting license. —-Granted. A. E. Gardener for leave to surrender a special alluvial claim. —Surrender accepted.

At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., J. W. Roworth, as Traffic Inspector, charged Phillip Kerr with driving a motor lorry without being the holder of a warrant of fitness for such vehicle. —.Convicted and fined 10/-, with costs. John Patterson, charged with operating an overloaded motor lorry, was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs. A meeting of the committee of the Reefton Amateur Swimming Club was held at the Baths, Mr. F. Hayes presiding over a good attendance. The appointment of Mr. G. Crossman as caretaker was confirmed. Statements in connection with the recent , dance and carnival were received, and the results were considered satisfactory. Votes of thanks to Mesdames. Archer and Eklund for supplying music gratis for the dance were recorded. Accounts amounting to £2/5/- were passed for payment. Receipt of donations of 10/- each from Messrs. W. Power and W. T. Keesing were advised. It was reported that the Inangahua County Council was doing everything possible to help the Club to place the Baths in proper order, and it was decided that a sub committee consisting of the club captain (Mr. G. August) and secretary (Mr. J. Dellaca) draw up a schedule of works to be completed. Mr. Hayes reported that the “Learn to Swim Week” was proving a success, with the children showing interest under competent instructors.
